Camping and caravanning in forests

Camping and caravanning in Northern Ireland's forests can be fun and a great way to take a break or spend holidays. There are several forests in Northern Ireland with sites and facilities for camping and caravanning.

Facilities

Fresh water, hot showers, toilet facilities, chemical toilet disposal points and electricity hook up points (for caravans) are provided at many main stay sites. Some sites have cafés and shop facilities nearby.

Camping facilities for tent packers are also available at the sites listed on this page for those who want to experience the great outdoors. These sites share the same washing and toilet facilities with caravan based visitors and have easy access for cars.

Separate camping facilities are available at some sites for youth organisations. If you are a lone backpacker, scout or guide, or a family who prefers to be under canvas, you'll find a site to suit your needs.

Long stay sites

There are long stay sites in five forest parks. These are large, fully equipped sites where you can stay for up to two weeks.

Caravan and camping sites can be booked and paid for beforehand  by contacting the relevant forest office. The refund policy applies. Bookings depend on the availability of pitches and can be booked on the day provided payment is made before the pitch is occupied.

Booking restrictions may apply to certain sites. Contact the site directly for further information.

Touring caravans (Touring in the Trees permits)

A Touring in the Trees permit allows you to stay in 11 touring caravan sites where you can explore the forests and surrounding countryside. The forest sites are reserved for permit holders. You cannot stay for longer than three nights at one site.

As the number of permits is limited, permits are issued to first come, first served applicants.
