Further details of contravention code 34P

Contravention code 34P is used for any vehicle seen to be parked at any time on a footway adjacent to a bus lane, as shown by markings on the carriageway (road). No observation period will be applied. No signage is required.

Parking prohibited

Signs show the hours of operation of the bus lane – however, footway parking is prohibited on bus lane routes at all times.

Exemptions to enforcement

Vehicles are not permitted to park on a footway adjacent to a bus lane with the following exemptions:

emergency vehicles
councils/ government departments in pursuance of statutory duties (access permitted only to work within the bus lane)
statutory undertakers, NIE Networks, NI Water, BT, Gas and so on (access permitted only to work within the bus lane, only on specified routes)
on behalf of universal service provider for the purpose of postal packets
for removal of an obstruction
with police permission
