Hillsborough Forest

This is a mixed coniferous and broadleaved forest planted within the walls of the large park, once part of Hillsborough Demesne. The tree fringed lake attracts a wide variety of wildfowl.

There are two waymarked trails leading around the lake and Fox Fort path.

The public are welcome to visit this forest on foot. A visitor car park and picnic area are provided.

To arrange a special event or activity in this forest, such as sporting events or educational visits, contact the recreation manager at Castlewellan Forest Park.

Occasionally there may be restricted access to parts of the forest during work or other forest operations. Pay attention to safety signage.

How to get there

From Hillsborough, follow Main Street to Dromore Road. The entrance to the forest is signposted left (Park Street).
