Ballysallagh Forest

This is a mostly coniferous forest with an area of broadleaved woodland at Cairn Wood. The public are welcome to visit this forest on foot.


There are way marked trails within Cairn Wood. The public may also walk on forest roads elsewhere.

To arrange a special event or activity in this forest, such as sporting events or educational visits, contact the recreation manager at Castlewellan Forest Park.

Occasionally there may be restricted access to parts of the forest during forestry work so pay attention to safety advice on forest signs.

How to get there

From Holywood, take Church Road to the junction with B170. Turn left onto Ballymiscaw Road.

At the end of the road turn right onto Whinney Hill. At the next junction turn left onto Craigantlet Road. Go for three quarters of a mile to North Down and Ards Borough Council's car park at Cairn Wood.
