Work experience placements
The scheme includes short work experience placements. These placements can last between two and eight weeks and will give you the chance to try out various tasks in a real work situation and develop skills needed to help you get a job.
You can learn more about specific industries and job roles to help you make more informed choices about your future. They can also improve your levels of confidence and motivation.
How to get on the Youth Employment Scheme
To be eligible for the Youth Employment Scheme work experience programme, you must:
- be aged 18-24
- be in receipt of Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA), (or not claiming benefit but are unemployed and actively seeking full-time employment) for five weeks or more
- not have reached the eligibility point for mandatory entry to the Steps 2 Success programme
If you want to get involved in the Youth Employment Scheme work experience programme, speak to an Employment Service Adviser in your local Jobs and Benefits Office or JobCentre to discuss what skills you need to develop.
An adviser can help you develop job search skills and advise on CV building and interview techniques. If you are eligible they can also help you identify suitable work experience opportunities that will improve your chances of getting a job.
Taking part in the scheme is voluntary and you will continue to receive your benefit. In addition, weekly travel costs will be reimbursed.
