    EuroGeographics vector mapping

Three fully attributed small scale reference datasets contribute to the European Spatial Data Infrastructure and form part of the EuroGlobalMap, EuroRegionalMap and EuroBoundaryMap products.

    Information about EuroGraphics data

The data is available as points, lines, polygons and text, all with attribution allowing cartographic representation in suitable software packages. The co-ordinate system is based on the ETRS89 spatial reference system showing degrees (longitude and latitude) with decimal fractions, and the data is compliant with the INSPIRE (Infrastructure for Spatial Information in Europe) Directive.

    OSNI GlobalMap

OSNI GlobalMap is a 1:1,000,000 scale digital vector topographic dataset covering Northern Ireland and forming part of EuroGlobalMap, a harmonised dataset covering European states.

    Information about GlobalMap

OSNI GlobalMap gives an overview of Northern Ireland and has:

    • positional accuracy is within 1000 metres
    • metadata according to ISO 19115 standard

    The dataset contains six themes.

    GlobalMap administrative boundaries

The administrative boundaries theme holds information on the administrative units down to NUTS3 level and their administrative hierarchy. A unified coding system for all the included administrative levels has been defined.

    GlobalMap water network

The water network holds information on watercourses, open water areas and the coast.

    GlobalMap transport network

The transport network holds information on roads and railways, ferry lines and airports. Connections between ferry stations and other transport centres have been added.

    GlobalMap settlement

The settlement theme holds information such as name and population for the built-up areas and settlements.

    GlobalMap elevation

The elevation theme holds information on the elevation of designated locations.

    GlobalMap named locations

The named locations are text objects which do not relate to vector data but are needed for cartographic purposes.

    OSNI RegionalMap

OSNI RegionalMap is a 1:250,000 scale digital vector topographical dataset covering Northern Ireland and forming part of the EuroRegionalMap, a pan-European vector database designed as a topographical framework at 1:250,000 scale.

    Information about RegionalMap

    This dataset contains seven themes.

    RegionalMap administrative boundaries

The administrative boundaries theme holds information on the administrative units and hierarchy down to the lowest level. A unified coding system for all the administrative levels is included.

    RegionalMap water network

The water network holds information for watercourses such as name, navigability and width range and information on the open water area, coast and features such as dams and locks. All watercourses form a connected network including connection through open water and underground.

    RegionalMap transport network

The transport network holds information on roads, railways, ferry lines, airports and harbours. Roads and railways are identified by their number or code and form a connected network with associated features such as railway stations, car parks, level crossings and road junctions. Connections between the different types of transport are also included.

    RegionalMap settlement

The settlement theme holds information about name and population for built-up areas and settlements.

    Vegetation and soil

The vegetation and soil theme holds basic features such as wood, orchard or sandy areas.

    RegionalMap named locations

The named locations are text labels which can be used for annotation.

    Miscellaneous

The miscellaneous theme holds various topographic elements like power lines, landmarks and buildings.

    OSNI BoundaryMap

OSNI BoundaryMap is a 1:100,000 scale digital vector topographical dataset covering Northern Ireland and forming part of the EuroBoundaryMap, a seamless geodatabase at the scale 1:100,000 covering European countries.

It contains geometry, names and codes of administrative and statistical units continuously updated by members, the national mapping and cadastral authorities (NMCAs) of Europe. It links to the updated statistical LAU and NUTS codes for all local administrative units member states of the European Union.

    Information about BoundaryMap

BoundaryMap's geometry gives administrative and statistical units with detailed local level and country level. Map features are:

    • names (Unicode UTF8 and ASCII) and unique hierarchical structured codes (UIDs) of all administrative units at each national level
    • unified coding system for all the administrative levels including designations of different national levels and the relations between them
    • links to statistical LAU and NUTS codes for all local administrative units
    • distinction between land and water areas of administrative units, for example coastal water or lakes
    • the data product specification is compliant to ISO 19131
