Driving test public health information for driving instructors
If you are an Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) or Approved Motorcycle Instructor (AMI), this page has important public health information about measures being taken by the Driver & Vehicle Agency (DVA) to help reduce the risk of spreading Coronavirus (COVID-19) during practical driving tests.
ADIs and AMIs, like all businesses, should follow the latest published guidance.
Information is also available at:
Practical driving tests
You must not come for your driving test if you feel unwell, or if you have any of the Covid-19 symptoms, or if you have been told to self-isolate. If you are waiting for, or have had, a Covid-19 test you must not come for your driving test unless your result has come back negative.
It is strongly recommended that you and any third-parties attending wear a face-covering while completing/observing a practical driving test. Although the use of face-coverings during the test is no longer mandatory, face-coverings will continue to be available and may be worn by examiners.
You must make sure the inside of the vehicle is cleaned before the test. The examiner may also use an antiviral wipe to clean the passenger door and anything they’ll need to touch inside the vehicle. Do not arrive for your driving test more than 5 minutes before your appointment time.
