Apply for a bus operator licence
Anyone applying or renewing a bus operator licence (BOL) or to make changes to an existing licence must do so online. Paper applications are no longer accepted.
Before you start

Driver and Vehicle Agency (DVA) services
Due to the restrictions imposed to prevent the spread of COVID-19, a number of DVA services are currently unavailable.

Apply for a licence
You should apply for your BOL at least eight weeks before you wish to start operating, to allow time for the application to be processed. Once the application has been agreed in principle you will be asked to pay a fee of £78 per vehicle for the grant of the licence.
