Dickens: Irish Friends and Family Ties
Dickens: Irish Friends and Family Ties’ marks the 150th anniversary of the death of celebrated Victorian writer, Charles Dickens.
This exhibition uses PRONI archives to explore the unique and lasting friendship between Charles Dickens and three prominent Ulstermen – politician James Emerson Tennent, newspaper editor Francis Dalzell Finlay and the diplomat Lord Dufferin. It touches upon the weird and the wonderful of Dickensian society, from execution and body snatching to tokens of love and friendship, allowing the visitor to consider how they may have influenced Dickens’s writing.
