Affordable Rent housing
Affordable Rent is a type of affordable private rented housing. It is for people who cannot access social housing but still find private rents too expensive. It can also help people who are saving to buy their own home.
How Affordable Rent housing works
Affordable Rent housing works as follows:
- homes are available for rent through an application process – there is no waiting list and no points system
- rents are set at 20 per cent less than local market rent
- homes are delivered and maintained to a high-quality standard which are move-in ready with white goods included
- tenancies usually last at least five years, and you may be able to renew for a further five years
- it is aimed at households which have low to moderate incomes
- it is most helpful for households spending more than 25 percent of their income on rent
Eligibility
You may be eligible if:
- your net annual household income (your income after tax, national insurance and pension contributions) is below:
- £30,000 (single adult)
- £40,000 (two adults)
- you have savings of £30,000 or less
- the lead tenant is 18 or over
How to apply
Homes are advertised by the landlord Maple and May Affordable Rent on their website, social media, property websites, and local adverts.
You will be able to apply online via Maple and May’s Affordable Rent website at www.mapleandmay.co.uk/affordable-rent or by calling 028 9553 1002.
