Finding an electrician

Thousands of fires each year in the UK are reported as having an electrical source such as faulty or inadequate wiring. These fires, along with electric shock accidents cause many deaths and serious injuries.

Checking and replacing fittings

Cables, switches, socket-outlets and other equipment can degrade or get damaged over time and so it is important to get them checked and replaced.

It is important that this work is carried out only by those with the necessary knowledge, skill and experience of the type of electrical work to be undertaken.

The Trustmark scheme, backed by the government, ensures that traders who sign up are fully qualified to do electrical work and also provides a complaints procedure.

The British Standards Institution, the Electrical Safety First and the Electrical Contractors Association can provide more information.
