Apprenticeship week events

During apprenticeship week 26 to 30 April 2021, there'll be a number of virtual events taking place. Events will be hosted by a range of stakeholders including local councils, employers, Further Education colleges, universities, private training providers and others. Find out what events will be happening below.

Where will it take me?

If you're a student or teacher interested in finding out more about what it’s like to be a construction apprentice, the CITB (Construction Industry Training Board) will be showcasing a number of case study videos on their social media channels from Monday 26 April to Friday 30 April.

During the event you can watch case study style videos about new and current construction apprentices.

Construction careers and apprenticeships – social media campaign

The CITB (Construction Industry Training Board) will be running a week-long social media campaign from Monday 26 April to Friday 30 April promoting construction apprenticeship and celebrating current apprentices.

The campaign will include a variety of apprentice video testimonials, graphics and photographs shown across CITB social media and website.

Derry City and Strabane District Council - social media campaign

Derry City and Strabane District Council will deliver a social media campaign from Monday 26 April to Friday 30 April promoting different apprenticeship areas.

Videos will include information on apprenticeships in the following areas:

  • health and social care
  • stores and warehousing
  • administration/accounts
  • retail and electrical
  • food production

Growth of apprenticeships

Derry City and Strabane District Council will deliver a social media campaign from Monday 26 April to Friday 30 April to promote key apprenticeship growth areas.

The campaign will include videos on social media showing key apprenticeship growth areas.

Academy Hair and Beauty

Academy Hair and Beauty will be hosting a virtual tour and Q and A session for those interested in a career in hair and beauty on Tuesday 27 April from 4.00 pm to 5.00 pm and also on Wednesday 28 April from 4.00 pm to 5.00 pm.

Insight into EY

Consulting and accountancy firm, EY, will host a virtual recruitment event on Tuesday 27 April from 4.30 pm to 5.30 pm to promote opportunities, hear from current apprentices and to answer questions. The event is open to potential apprentices, parents, guardians and teachers.

The event will include:

  • information on opportunities within EY
  • current apprentices experiences
  • a Q and A Session

Craft your future in retail with Craft Training Ltd

Craft Recruitment Ltd is screening a video on Friday 30 April from 1.00 pm to 1.15 pm promoting retail apprenticeships.

The video is aimed at:

  • those interested in retail
  • potential apprentices, teachers, parents and anyone with an active interest in apprenticeships

Derry celebrities visit CraftNI - let us craft your future

Craft NI Ltd will be screening videos by a variety of NI celebrities including Nadine Coyle and Conor McGinty on Monday 26 April from 2.00 pm to 2.15 pm. The videos will promote the positive benefits of apprenticeships and include:

  • videos from Nadine Coyle, Conor McGinty and Ciaron Harkin
  • 30 second videos promoting Craft Training Ltd

Cooking demo with ‘Mark makes’

A cooking demonstration with Craft Recruitment Ltd will take place on Wednesday 28 April from 1.30 pm to 2.00 pm with tutor Mark Hassan and includes a competition to win the lunch delivered to your door.

Craft Recruitment Ltd will be screening a short promotional video showing a day in the life of a nursing assistant apprentice on Tuesday 27 April from 12 noon to 12.15 pm.

The apprenticeship takeover

From Monday 26 April to Friday 30 April, companies in the Manufacturing and Engineering Growth and Advancement network (MEGA) will be given access for the day to MEGA's social media platforms to promote apprenticeships.

This event includes:

  • The company ‘apprenticeship ambassadors’ getting access to MEGA's social media to live stream a pre-agreed and planned story and 
  • apprentices will promote their day-to-day fun and meaningful experiences to potential apprentices

Online apprenticeship event

Northern Regional College are hosting an online information event on Monday 26 April from 9.00 am to promote apprenticeships, answer questions and provide more information.

You will be able to:

  • find out more about traineeship/apprenticeship programmes
  • listen to employers and apprentices sharing their experiences
  • find out more about finding an employer
  • watch course videos on apprenticeship subject areas
  • book a ‘call back’ with the NRC Training Support Team

The Big Apprenticeship Event

Southern Regional College are hosting ‘The Big Apprenticeship Event’ from 11.00 am Tuesday 27 April to Thursday 29 April.  

This event will include a pre-recorded panel discussion and you will hear from:

  • business, councils and education
  • Northern Ireland’s top science employers who are recruiting for September 2021
  • current Level 2/3 Apprentices and Higher Level Apprentices
  • Apprenticeship and HLA employers who are recruiting for September 2021

There will be a daily Q and A chat from 1.00 pm to 3.00 pm and 6.00 pm to 8.00 pm from Tuesday 27 April to Thursday 29 April.

You will have the opportunity to listen to apprentices and employer testimonials and links will be provided to apprenticeship information.

Ards and North Down Borough Council – social media campaign

Ards and North Down Borough are screening videos on their social media channels featuring local employers and their apprentices from Monday 26 April to Friday 30 April.

Transport and automotive apprenticeships – virtual Q and A session

As part of Northern Ireland Apprenticeship Week, Transport Training Services (TTS) will be hosting a virtual tour of their training facilities, followed by a virtual Q and A session with a panel of existing/past apprentices as well as tutors and staff.

The event will take place on Tuesday 27 April from 7.00 pm to 8.30pm and will include the following:

  • an opportunity for young people, parents, schools and employers to find out more about the various transport and automotive apprenticeships available at TTS, as well as career progression opportunities in these sectors
  • attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions during the event, but those questions that are submitted before the event will be prioritised
  • the virtual guided tour will take viewers through the training rooms, workshops and computer suites of the TTS campus at Nutts Corner to give prospective apprentices and employers an overview of the facilities on offer

Transport Training Services  – Women Auto Learn

Transport Training Services ‘’Women Auto Learn'’ event will be hosted by a former female TTS apprentice, now a qualified vehicle technician working in a leading local car dealership.

The event will take place on Thursday 29 April from 6.30pm to 8.30pm and will include:

  • an introduction to to general car maintenance aimed at young women between the ages of 16 to 24
  • hands-on training on how to maintain a car, including how to carry out a full vehicle health check, as well as learn how to do basic tasks such as checking oil levels, changing wiper blades, topping up fluids

Sarah and Todd’s MEGA Apprenticeship Adventure in Mid Ulster

The MEGA (Manufacturing & Engineering Growth and Advancement) Network are launching an animated information broadcast on their social media channels promoting the new Manufacturing and Engineering degree Apprenticeship.

Higher Level Apprenticeship in L5 Leadership in Children’s Care, Learning and Development

Belfast Metropolitan College are running an event promoting their Higher Level Apprenticeship in Childcare on Thursday 29 April from 4.00 pm to 5.00 pm.

  • The session will provide an overview of the HLA in L5 Leadership in Children’s Care, Learning and Development, curriculum overview and course structure
  • The session will be led by Jill McWilliams who is a current manager in a day care setting and teaches the programme part time at Belfast Met
  • Jill will be joined by a second year student who will give an insight into her experiences studying while working full time in the sector

Making Apprenticeships Work for apprentices with disabilities

Disability Action are posting a range of case studies on their website highlighting the journey of participants with disabilities into apprenticeships.

The case studies will showcase how employers have benefited from support from Disability Action.

What’s new at the Centre for Skills and Apprenticeships at Belfast Met - Business Services Pathways

Belfast Met are hosting a webinar on Tuesday April 27 April from 3.00 pm to 4.00 pm.

This event will:

  • highlight what new apprenticeship pathways are available within professional services sector
  • be an opportunity to meet the tutors and find out what is involved in undertaking an apprenticeship programme

Belfast Met podcast – Talk to an Apprentice

Belfast Met are hosting a podcast on Thursday 29 April which will encompass IT, Marketing, Finance, HR and Business Improvement and will include:

  • an informal catch up with a panel of apprentices at different stages of their apprenticeship journey
  • an opportunity for listeners to leave voice messages in response to the podcast and also reach the college via email apprenticeships@belfastmet.ac.uk

Belfast Met podcast – Talk to an Employer

Belfast Met are hosting a podcast with Allen and Overy on Tuesday 27 April and will include:

  • an informal cup of coffee catch up with the HR team from Allen and Overy giving an insight into how apprenticeships have worked for them
  • an insight into the ethos on recruitment linked to apprenticeships

Let’s Talk All Things Apprenticeships – The Apprenticeship Experience

Belfast Met are hosting a podcast with IT company, Texthelp and their course tutor from Belfast Met.

Introducing Level 6 and Level 7 apprenticeships at Queen’s University Belfast

Queen’s University Belfast will host a panel of participating employers including PwC and Farrans and students to discuss the current HLA level 6 and 7 programmes and the future of HLA programmes at the University.

Users can attend the presentation by visiting the Queen's University website  and selecting the video link which will be available from 25 April.

PWC teacher and parent information event

To celebrate Northern Ireland Apprenticeship Week, PWC is hosting an information session for teachers, career advisors and parents on Monday 26 April 2021 from 4.15 pm to 5.00pm. The event will: 

  • inform teachers and career’s advisors on PwC, apprenticeship opportunities for students and the PwC application process
  • kick off a great week of virtual events for students, teachers and parents to get involved with
  • allow attendees to hear about school and college leaver opportunities, upcoming events and the recruitment process
  • allow you to hear from a business leader in PwC Operate, and will have the opportunity to ask the NI Student Recruitment team any questions you may have

PWC – Meet The Apprentice Event

PWC are hosting a 'Meet the Apprentice' event as part of the NI Apprenticeship Week on Thursday 29 April from 4.00 pm to 5.00 pm.

  • This event is for students to learn more about PWC’s School and College Leaver programmes, Higher Level Apprenticeship programmes and the Flying Start Degree Programme
  • You'll get the chance to hear from current PWC apprentices on these programmes, ask them any questions you have, and learn more about the application process
  • This event is open to all students currently in Year 13 and Year 14, teachers, parents and carers

Accounting Technicians Ireland - Higher Level Apprenticeship virtual open day

Accounting Technicians Ireland is hosting a virtual open day for potential Higher Level Apprenticeship applicants on Thursday 29 April from 5.00 pm to 6.00 pm.

Attendees will be taken through a presentation on the benefits of the HLA in Accountancy including progression paths and indeed how to apply for the HLA.
