Any reduction in collisions or casualties observed at red light running camera sites cannot solely be attributed to the presence of the safety cameras. Other factors may have contributed to the decrease.

Trends - there has been a general decrease in injury collisions in across Northern Ireland during recent years and so it’s likely that a similar level of decrease would be expected at safety camera site locations.

Regression to the mean (RTM) is another factor and relates to the level of collisions varying over time at individual camera sites and the fact that once selected following a high level of KSI collisions, the same high level is unlikely to be repeated in subsequent years.
