NI Road Safety Partnership
The Northern Ireland Road Safety Partnership aims to change attitudes towards speeding. It also aims to reduce the number of road traffic casualties through education and by detecting speed at locations with a history of collisions and where there is evidence of speeding.
Statistics
Excess speed was a contributory reason in one in nine of all fatal collisions in Northern Ireland in 2022.
In NI in 2022 there were:
- 52 fatal collisions resulting in 55 fatalities - of those 52 collisions, six listed excessive speed as a reason in the collision, four listed excessive speed as the principal causation reason and two further collisions had excessive speed listed as a contributory reason
- 5,116 injury collisions were recorded resulting in a total of 7,846 casualties
Based on 2021 collision data, Northern Ireland recorded 26 road deaths per million population compared with 23 in England, 26 in Scotland and 27 in Wales.
