Apply for electric vehicle cross-pavement charging
If you live in Northern Ireland, own an electric vehicle and need a way to charge it at home across a pavement, you can apply online to use a specifically-designed cable protector or to enquire about getting a cross-pavement channel.

Cable protector
To apply to use a cable protector you will need to provide:
- evidence of your insurance cover - as the owner you are liable for accidents or injury that arise from using an electric vehicle (EV) charging cable, particularly where these may present a hazard on a public footway
- a picture of outside your property to show where the cable protector would run
and
- a link or picture of intended cable cover solution that is suitable for an external EV charging cable
You also have to give the following details of the cable protector you plan to use:
- colour
- construction (the type of material your cable protector is made of)
- capacity (the number of cables your cable protector holds)
- dimensions (mm)
Cross-pavement channel
To enquire about a cross-pavement channel, you’ll need to provide a picture of outside your property to show where the cross-pavement channel will be used.
