Museums and galleries

If you want a day out that is educational and fun, visit a museum or gallery. From local history to modern art and dinosaurs to space rockets, there's something for everybody.

What's on

As well as featured exhibitions, museums and galleries sometimes hold workshops, activities and events. 

Armagh Observatory and Planetarium

The Armagh Observatory and Planetarium is Northern Ireland's main astronomical research and education facility.  It offers visitors a digital full dome theatre, exhibitions and workshops and an outdoor Astropark featuring scale models of the Solar System

National Museums NI

National Museums NI is made up of four diverse museums and serves as a custodian of the 1.4 million objects within the National Collection.

The Ulster Museum is the home of Northern Ireland’s treasures – past and present. The rich collections of art, history and natural sciences take you on a journey across the globe and to the far reaches of space.

Journey back in time to rediscover Ulster as it was over a century ago. Explore rolling hills of countryside and a bustling town filled with authentic period buildings. See daily demonstrations of traditional crafts from basket weaving to printing and meet the costumed guides bringing it all to life.

Northern Ireland Museums Council

The Northern Ireland Museums Council (NIMC), is the lead body supporting local museums across Northern Ireland. It manages the Museum Accreditation Scheme which is the sector standard for museums in the UK, providing help with grants to those museums that have met that standard. As well as providing training and skills development for those who work and volunteer in local museums, NIMC is keen to promote the importance of local museums across Northern Ireland.

Ulster Aviation Society has a collection of more than 40 historic aircraft and exhibits celebrating Northern Ireland’s aviation heritage.
