Getting a primary school place in September 2019

Children go to primary school when they’re aged between four and 11 years old. You apply online for your child’s first year place at primary school. The deadline for applying for a primary school place was 31 January 2019.

Late applications for primary school places

Online applications for primary school places received by the 31 January 2019 closing date are considered first.

Late applications received by the deadline of 25 March 2019 will have been considered after online applications that were received by the closing date.

Late applications received after the deadline of 25 March 2019 will not be considered for a place until May 2019.

Decision letters for school places

Schools sent decision letters about their school places to children’s parents on Thursday 9 May 2019.

When a child isn’t offered a place

If you applied on time but your child wasn’t offered a place, the Education Authority will have asked you to choose a new preference from schools that still have places available. They’ll have written to you by 9 May 2019. If you have not received a letter about your child’s placement you should contact the Admissions Helpdesk in the Education Authority on 028 9598 5595.

Closing date for appealing a decision

If you want to appeal a decision about your child’s application for a school place, you need to tell the Education Authority by 4.00 pm on Thursday 23 May 2019.
