2026 fish stocking figures
Fisheries in the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) Public Angling Estate are stocked with fish from Movanagher Fish Farm. The fish stocking table below is updated when monthly stocking has been confirmed.
Stocking of the Public Angling Estate
Stocking of Public Angling Estate waters was suspended in 2023. This was due to the identification of zebra mussels, an invasive species, at DAERA’s fish farm at Movanagher.
DAERA and the Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute (AFBI) have been working to develop stocking protocols to ensure compliance with the Wildlife Order (NI) 1985.
Results from recent sampling and the low water temperature, typically below that for reproduction of zebra mussels, is allowing for the restarting of the annual stocking programme. Should water samples be found to have live zebra mussel veligers (larva) and/or water temperatures increase to 10°C then all stocking will be paused until conditions are suitable.
DAERA Inland Fisheries try to make sure these waters are stocked regularly, depending on their quota. However, they are not stocked on a monthly basis.
Information on future stocking is not released, and numbers are made available after stocking has been carried out.
