Help and support for victims of sexual assault and rape

There are a range of organisations who can provide specialist support to victims of sexual violence and abuse and victims of sexual violence at the hand of their partner. More generally there are organisations that provide advice and support to all victims of crime.

Organisations providing support

The section provides you with details of the main support organisations. You might find it helpful to contact one or more of these organisations.

You do not need to have reported the rape/ sexual assault in order to seek their help. But if you reveal information about a serious crime, the person you tell is obligated by law to tell the relevant authorities, for example, the police.

Nexus NI

Nexus NI works across Northern Ireland to respond to the needs of people aged 16 and over who have experienced sexual abuse and may benefit from specialist counselling for survivors of sexual abuse/ violence.

NI Women’s Aid Federation

Women’s Aid provides advice, support and safe accommodation for women (and their children) who have been abused mentally, physically and/ or sexually by their partner/ ex-partner.

Health matters

GUM clinics offer free and confidential services for anyone, of any age, who has been raped or sexually assaulted. This includes support, testing and advice. Staff are sensitive and experienced in working with men and women.
