Introduction to the J.C. Beckett Papers

This is a document summarising some of the most interesting and significant content within the J.C. Beckett archive (D4126) held in PRONI.


The papers of the late Professor James Camlin Beckett comprise around 130 volumes and around 400 documents including:

  • diaries, pocket books and other journals, 1930 to 1993
  • correspondence, 1927 to 1988
  • notes, working papers and drafts relating to Beckett's major publications and broadcasts, around 1958 to 1987
  • folders of notes appertaining to specific historical compositions (inc. poetry, radio plays etc.), around 1929 to around 1960
  • documents concerning projects in which Beckett was involved
