Student Loan rates 2012/2013

Student Loans are available to eligible full-time students doing a higher education course in the UK. This page tells you the maximum rates for students from Northern Ireland over 2012/2013.

Student Loan for Tuition Fees: maximum rates for 2012/2013

The maximum you’ll have to pay for tuition fees depends on when you started your course - and so does the maximum loan you can get.

New students and students who started in or after September 2006

For new students, students who started from 2007/2008 until 2011/2012 and most who started in 2006/2007 the loan will cover the full amount charged for tuition fees. This means up to £3,465 for 2012/2013.

Students who started before September 2006

If you started your course before September 2006 (or if you are treated as having started then), you may be able to get a Fee Grant to help with the contribution you have to make towards your tuition fees.

Depending on your household income, this could mean up to £1,380 - the full Fee Grant for 2012/2013.

If you only qualify for a partial Fee Grant, you can apply for a fee contribution loan to cover the difference.

Student Loan for Maintenance: maximum rates for 2012/2013

The basic student loan is £3,750 for those Northern Ireland students living and attending college at home, £6,780 if the course is in London and £4,840 for those living elsewhere. 25 per cent of the loan is means tested.
