About Stormont Estate
Stormont Estate is a major tourist and visitor attraction on the outskirts of Belfast. It is open to the public and entry is free.
A variety of attractions
On Stormont Estate there are beautiful gardens, a variety of walks, fitness and adventure trails, a children's playground, picnic and barbecue areas, historic buildings and monuments.
The estate also hosts many events throughout the year, including a weekly park run.
Whilst attracting large numbers of visitors, the estate is also important to the local community and is popular for dog walkers, runners and families.
Opening times
The Stormont Estate opening times change throughout the year but in general follow daylight hours. The latest opening times are:
- Monday to Friday - 7.30 am to 9.00 pm
- Saturday and Sunday - 9.00 am to 8.30 pm
'Quiet Hour' at the play park
The Mo Mowlam Play Park has a 'Quiet Hour' every Sunday from 9.30 am to 10.30 am to help create a calmer environment for children with extra needs.
Getting to Stormont Estate
Stormont Estate is in the east of Belfast, on the Upper Newtownards Road (A20). When travelling along the Upper Newtownards Road, the large entrance to the estate is visible on the left, about five miles from the city centre.
A second entrance for the public on foot is available at Massey Avenue, Belfast BT4.
Parking is available in front of the main gates on the Upper Newtownards Road, at the Massey Avenue entrance and in the play park car park located on the left about 100 metres after the main gates to Stormont Estate.
The Metro bus numbers to Stormont Estate are 3G, 3H, and 7H. The Glider bus service is G1 (Stormont stop). Check the Translink website for more information and timetables:

Mo Mowlam Play Park
The Mo Mowlam Play Park is an inclusive play park, specially designed so children of all abilities can play together and has over 40 separate pieces of equipment.
Green Flag Awards
In 2022 Stormont Estate was awarded its ninth consecutive Green Flag award. The Green Flag award is the benchmark national standard for parks and green spaces in the UK. It measures the quality of the management, operation and improvement of free public parks and green spaces.
It was first launched in 1996 to recognise and reward the best green spaces in the country and is an internationally recognised certification.
The awards are judged annually by a panel of experts, who volunteer their time to assess the management plans and the applicant sites through a tough judging process.
Stormont Estate has also been awarded the Green Heritage Award for the third year. The award recognises the historic importance of the site.
