Slieveanorra Forest
An extensive area of conifer forest, located between the Newton Crommelin to Armoy and the Newton Crommelin to Cushendun roads.
Activities
Panoramic views from the summit of Orra Mountain are the reward on a clear day for those climbing to the summit.
Forest Service does not provide public access or car parking facilities at this forest; however, visitors can choose to access the forest roads on foot.
To arrange a special event or activity in this forest, you should apply in the first instance to the Recreation Manager, Forest Service NI based at Garvagh Forest Office.
Such activities may include sports events, camping and caravanning events, or educational visits.
There may be restrictions on access to parts of our forests from time to time to facilitate forest operations. Please adhere to safety signage which will be posted for your safety.
About this forest
From the peak it is possible to see the Inner Hebrides of the Scottish coast and all the way to the Mourne Mountains in South Down.
Please take care not to obstruct any gateways or other entrances as these may be required for access by timber lorries or other forestry traffic.
How to get there
Travelling north on the A2 coastal route from Cushendall town, take the Glenaan Road (second turning on the left, about one to two miles out of Cushendall). Follow this road for about four miles and the edge of the forest is reached at a small cross-roads.
The road leading straight on climbs steadily uphill and along this route the summit of Orra Mountain (or Orra Head) is visible on the left.
Visitors should take note that the public roads around and through the forest blocks are minor and of poor quality, with limited opportunities for parking.
