Make a claim for criminal injuries sustained from April 2009

The Northern Ireland Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme 2009 is a tariff based scheme for the payment of compensation in cases of criminal injury, where the injury was sustained on or after 1 April 2009.

Overview

Under this scheme you may be entitled to claim:

  • compensation for a personal injury whether mental or physical
  • compensation if your parent, child, husband, wife or partner has died as a result of a criminal injury
  • compensation for loss of earnings or earning capacity as a result of a criminal injury

Download and complete the following form in relation to claims where the victim has died, other than in consequence of the injury sustained. Compensation may be paid for loss of earnings or special expenses between the date of injury and subsequent date of death.

It should be noted that if the time period between date of injury and date of unrelated date is less than 28 weeks you will not qualify for a supplementary compensation award.

Historic sexual abuse

Cases of historic sexual abuse between 11th June 1968 and 30th April 2002 may also be considered under this scheme if they would have failed under previous legislation because they were not made within the required time limit.

Please note - that if the incidents happened between 11th June 1968 and 30th June 1988 and the victim lived in the same household as the offender no compensation can be paid.
