SWC Welding Academy
If you’re interested in a career as a welder, 12 training opportunities are currently available in this fourth Welding Academy of seven. If you successfully complete the academy, you will gain an industry recognised welding qualification and be considered for a potential job role with one of the participating companies.
The Welding Academy is a six week intensive training course to prepare you for a job role in the engineering and manufacturing sector under the Assured Skills Programme. Training will be delivered by South West College (SWC) at a dedicated training facility in Cookstown. Those selected for the Academy will study ETCAL Level 2 Performing Engineering Operations and Certified Abrasive Wheels Training. If you successfully complete the course, you'll be guaranteed a job interview with a participating company.
Who can apply
- be at least 18 years old by Monday 18 October 2021
- be eligible to work in the UK
This opportunity is not open to anyone currently employed within the manufacturing and engineering sector.
If in full-time employment – by accepting this offer of a place on this pre-employment training Academy, you are committing to pursuing a job opportunity with at least one of the employers supporting the Academy. This Academy is not available as an upskilling opportunity to anyone currently employed (including as an apprentice) planning to return to that employment after the completion of this Academy.
How to apply
Apply online at SWC Welding Academy by 12.00 noon on Friday 24 September 2021.
A selection day comprising of an information session and a short interview is planned and you will be contacted directly with regards to timings.
Depending on COVID restrictions applicants maybe be interviewed remotely using video communication services such as Microsoft Teams, Zoom etc or by telephone.
Successful applicants will attend six weeks intensive training at a dedicated training venue in Cookstown.
Successful candidates will attend training that will be held on the following dates:
- Monday 18 October 2021 to Friday 26 November 2021*
- All training will be Monday – Friday 9.00 am – 5.00 pm
*The participating companies will select the participants and these dates may be cancelled or changed due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation
