NRC Welding Academy
If you’re interested in a career in the manufacturing sector, 12 training opportunities are available at the Northern Regional College (NRC) Welding Academy. After successfully completing this academy you will gain an industry recognised welding qualification which will allow you to apply for potential job roles with a participating company.
The Welding Academy is a seven week intensive training course (including the two weeks employer based training consolidation) which will prepare you for welding positions currently available in the engineering and manufacturing sector under the Assured Skills Programme.
Training will be delivered at NRC’s Ballymena Farm Lodge campus. If you are selected for the Academy you will study City and Guilds Level 2 Welding. If you successfully complete the course you are guaranteed a job interview with a participating company.
Who can apply
- be at least 18 years old by Monday 10 January 2022
- be eligible to work in the UK
This opportunity is not open to anyone currently employed within the manufacturing and engineering sector.
If in full-time employment – by accepting this offer of a place on this pre-employment training Academy, you are committing to pursuing a job opportunity with at least one of the employers supporting the Academy.
This Academy is not available as an upskilling opportunity to anyone currently employed (including as an apprentice) planning to return to that employment after the completion of this Academy.
How to apply
Apply online NRC Welding Academy by 12.00 noon on Friday 10 December 2021.
An information session and a short interview is planned and you will be contacted directly with regards to timings.
Depending on Covid restrictions, you may be interviewed remotely using video communication services such as Microsoft Teams, Zoom etc or by telephone.
If you are successful you will attend five weeks intensive training at the Ballymena Farm Lodge campus followed by two weeks workplace consolidation with one of the supporting companies.
Training that will be held on the following dates:
Monday 10 January to 11 February 2022– college
Monday 14 February to Friday 25 February 2022 - consolidation*
*Note the participating companies will select the participants and these dates may change due to the ongoing Covid-19 situation

- SDC, Toomebridge
- Terex, Ballymena
- Wrightbus, Ballymena
