Linenopolis Exhibition

This exciting new exhibition celebrates Belfast's linen heritage and the many businesses connected to the linen industry in Belfast's Linen Quarter. It explores the social history, working life, family life and the health of the workers. Artists Wilma Kirkpatrick and Helen O'Hare will showcase a selection of embroidered linen samplers. A hand embroidered linen quilt created by Ligoniel Historical Society will be on loan. Photographs created as part of a community outreach project in partnership with Belfast Exposed will also be exhibited. PRONI will also highlight some of the many linen related records within our collections.

This project has been funded by the Department for Communities, Tourism Northern Ireland and the National Lottery Heritage Fund as part of the European Year of Cultural Heritage.

Rachel Brady is Education and Outreach Officer at the Linen Hall Library. Rachel will discuss some of the topics included in the exhibition including oral history recordings with local community groups.
