Home energy check

Before you think about installing renewable energy technologies, you should carry out a number of energy efficiency measures and consider a Home Energy Check.

Energy efficiency measures

The Energy Saving Trust free home energy check questionnaire will assess which measures are most suitable for your home. Give your home a check up and you could save around £250 per year.

These measures will make sure that you are minimising your energy requirements and getting the most from the renewable energy technologies.

  • insulate the entire loft of the property to meet the current recommended depth of 270mm of mineral wool or suitable alternative
  • insulate cavity walls (if you have cavity walls)
  • fit energy saving light bulbs in all light fittings that can take them
  • install central heating controls to include a room thermostat, a programmer, cylinder thermostat and thermostatic radiator valves
