A gazetteer is a geographical index. OSNI produces four gazetteers: the Place Names gazetteer, Street Names gazetteer, 1:50,000 gazetteer and 1:250,000 gazetteer.

The coordinates show the position of the text on the map, as opposed to the true ground location.

OSNI gazetteers

The Place Names gazetteer is available under Open Data and contains a list of 336 towns and villages in Northern Ireland.

The street name gazetteer is available under Open Data and contains a full list of over 25, 000 street names in Northern Ireland along with Irish Grid coordinates and associated Unique Street Reference Number (USRN) from the Pointer address data.

Alternatively the 1:50,000 and 1:250,000 gazetteers (derived from the 1:50,000 and 1:250,000 raster datasets respectively) offer geo-referenced information on cities, towns, villages, main roads, townlands and places of interest, and are available under licence.
