Cyber gateway aptitude programme

If you’re interested in a career in cyber security this free online training programme will help you find out how to succeed and give you the knowledge and skills needed for a career in this fast-growing industry.

About the programme

This free training programme consists of a variety of online challenges and mini games, called ‘labs’. Each lab focuses on a different area of cyber security, to help you become more familiar with the industry.

You take the online training alone. It can be completed at home and at your own pace.

The training will help you to find out whether you have what it takes to succeed in cyber. If you do, it will give you the knowledge and skills needed for a career in this fast-growing industry.

Eligibility

The programme is currently closed to new applications. This pilot programme, which is due to close on 30 March 2022, will be reviewed and may reopen for applications. This web page will include any updates about the potential reopening of the programme.

To be eligible for the programme, applicants didn’t need experience in a tech or cyber role to get involved but had to:

  • be aged 16 or over
  • live in Northern Ireland
  • have a GCSE or equivalent in Maths and English

It was not necessary to complete an interview to apply.  However an interview may be required in order to apply for any placement or job opportunities.

Completing the course

The platform includes an exclusive jobs platform on which employers are able to advertise relevant vacancies. The platform will also include information about the Cyber sector and the various career pathways.

From your profile, you can print a certificate, which includes all the labs that you have completed. You can include this on your CV. The completed labs can also count towards Continuous Professional Education (CPE) or Continuous Professional Development (CPD) credits.
