Grant available to replace old boilers

If you have an old, inefficient boiler you could receive a grant to have it replaced. Up to £1,000 can be granted towards the replacement. If eligible, you should register for the Boiler Replacement Scheme by the end of December. The scheme, which is only available in Northern Ireland, is due to come to an end on 31 March 2015.

How to register

Owner-occupiers earning less than £40,000 who have a boiler at least 15 years old are eligible to have it upgraded.

The grant is dependent on total gross income. It is available to assist with either:

  • replacing an inefficient boiler for a more energy-efficient condensing oil or gas boiler
  • switching from oil to gas; or
  • switching to a wood pellet boiler

You can find out more about the grant at the page below:

If you think you may be eligible to register for the allowance, you should contact:

Replacing old boilers will help people reduce their energy costs and maximise the energy efficiency of their homes.

Getting a boiler installed

If you have registered for the scheme and been sent an approval form by the Housing Executive but have not had your work completed, you are encouraged to contact your installer now and arrange to do so before the scheme is due to end in March 2015.

Any installer can be used, as long as they are 'gas safe' registered for gas installations.

Retrospective approval will not be given for this scheme.

Building control inspection and fee is compulsory for this scheme, and the cost of the fee is not included in the grant.
