Job interview video transcript
So, you’ve been offered a job interview? Congratulations! Now, how can you make the most of your chances?
If you have good experience and the ability to do the job, don’t let the interview let you down.
Here’s how to make a good impression:
- appearance is important - don’t overdress, but look neat and tidy
- don’t sit down until you’re invited; don’t slouch in your chair but don’t sit nervously on the edge of it either - try and relax
- try not to fidget -if you play with something like a ring when you are nervous, don’t wear it to the interview
- listen to what you are being asked and take time to think before you answer
- show that you are listening – show positive interest by nodding
- speak clearly and look at the interviewer – not round the room or at your feet
- answer questions clearly and politely; some interviewers may appear aggressive or challenge your interest in the job - this will be to test your reaction and your degree of interest, so don’t be put off - remain calm and polite and don’t interrupt or argue with the interviewer
- don’t draw attention to any weaknesses you think you may have but be ready with answers which emphasise your strengths especially those which are relevant to the job, for example, I get on well with people or I like working with figures
- don’t criticise present or past employers
- ask about the job – intelligent questions not only make a good impression but can provide you with the information you need to decide whether the job is right for you
- and finally … smile!
