Community transport and Shopmobility

Some areas have community transport services for people who have difficulty using public transport. Shopmobility schemes operate across Northern Ireland.

General information is available from the Department for Regional Development Transport Programme for People with Disabilities.

Community transport services

Door -2-Door transport

Door-2-Door transport is a local urban transport service for people with disabilities, or for those who find it difficult using mainstream public transport. It was introduced in 2006 and is now available across 29 towns and cities in Northern Ireland.

Group transport

The Department for Regional Development supports the availability of accessible minibuses to enable groups with disabled members to get around in Belfast (operated by Disability Action Transport) and Londonderry (operated by Bridge Accessible Transport).

Easibus

Translink operates an Easibus service providing local bus services mainly, but not exclusively, for mobility impaired people who cannot avail of existing conventional services.

Shopmobility

Shopmobility schemes hire out or lend manual wheelchairs, powered wheelchairs and powered scooters to anyone who needs help with mobility to get around. Shopmobility centres are usually located in a town centre or shopping centre, enabling people to go shopping and to visit leisure and commercial facilities.
