Changes to the Pet Travel Scheme from 1 January 2012
From 1 January 2012, the rules for pets entering the UK will change as it aligns its Pet Travel Scheme with the EU-wide pet movement system under EC Regulation 998/2003.
The main changes
For EU and listed non EU countries
- a post vaccination blood test is no longer required
- a 21-day wait after vaccination before entry/ re-entry to the UK
- no tick treatment required
- tapeworm treatment for dogs required 24hrs-5days before embarkation to the UK
For unlisted non EU countries
- quarantine no longer compulsory as animal can be prepared in country of travel
- a three-month wait after a satisfactory post vaccination blood test before entry/ re-entry to the UK
- no tick treatment required
- tapeworm treatment for dogs required 24hrs-5days before embarkation to the UK
