About ecar
ecar is bringing an electric vehicle charging infrastructure to Northern Ireland.
ecar project
The introduction of this infrastructure means that over the next two years a network of electric vehicle charging points will be installed:
- in a number of towns and cities across Northern Ireland
- in a number of other important locations
The ecar project will also explore opportunities to install charging points in workplaces and at home. This is the first project of its kind in Northern Ireland.
Electric vehicles are revolutionising the way people think about cars. With no tail-pipe CO2 (carbon dioxide) emissions, the electric car is a step towards a more sustainable future. Plug-in electric vehicles use no petrol and no diesel. With fuel prices being a cause of concern to many, the switch to electric vehicles is becoming more appealing.
ecar is part of the UK-wide scheme called Plugged in Places (PIP) which provides government funding to regions that want to bring charging points to their area. There are also other 'Plugged In Places' schemes operating in the following areas across the UK:
- London - Source London website
- Milton Keynes - Chargemaster Milton Keynes website
- the North East of England - Charge your car website
- East of England - Source East website
- Manchester
- Scotland
- Midlands - Cenex Plugged-In Midlands website
- Plugged in Places - Department for Transport website
