Steps to take if you think your rate bill is too high
For domestic properties, the actual amount that you are charged is calculated by multiplying the capital valuation by the domestic rate in the pound for your area.
You can use the attached links to check the capital valuation of individual domestic properties, the rate in the pound for your area and to calculate your rates:

When your property has been valued for the first time or following alterations, you will receive a Certificate of Valuation showing your new capital valuation. If you think that the valuation is incorrect, you can appeal this to the Commissioner of Valuation within 28 days. To do this please complete the following form: - please note that this form can be used for domestic and non-domestic properties:

If you remain dissatisfied with the Commissioner's decision, you can appeal to the Northern Ireland Valuation Tribunal (domestic or mixed properties where the NAV or non domestic element is less then £12,500), or the Lands Tribunal for Northern Ireland. It should be noted that you must still pay your rates while your are waiting for a decision and if your appeal is successful LPS will refund any amount overpaid, along with interest, if applicable.
