Door-2-Door Transport
Door-2-Door Transport is a local urban transport service for people with disabilities, or for those who find it difficult using mainstream public transport.
About the scheme
Door-2-Door Transport is available in 29 urban areas across Northern Ireland. It can allow you to get about the town you live - to your work, your local shop, your town centre, your hairdresser, your local bank, your local doctor, or even just to visit your family or friends.
Your first trip is free. After that you will be charged a flat fare of £1.50 per single journey to travel anywhere within your local area (known as the operational area).
You may be able to travel beyond this distance, but it will cost more than the flat rate.
Membership is free.
Who can use Door-2-Door Transport?

Cost of travel
As a new member of the Door-2-Door Transport service, you can book your first single or return trip within your operational area for free. After that, all single journeys within your area cost a flat fare of £1.50.
Children under five years of age can travel free and those aged between five and 16 will be charged half fare. Anyone aged 17 and over will be charged at the full rate.
Concessionary travel through the Northern Ireland Concessionary Fares Scheme is not available for these services. Children under the age of 11 must be accompanied by an adult.
When you make a booking, you will be informed of the total cost of the journey.
Fares will be reviewed on an annual basis.
How far can I travel on the Door-2-Door Transport service?
You can travel anywhere within your entire operational area for the £1.50 flat fare (single trip).
From time to time you may wish to travel outside your operational area, but priority will be given to those members wishing to travel within their own operational area.
This means that if you wish to make a booking to travel outside your operational area your booking cannot be confirmed until after 4.00pm on the day before you wish to travel.
The schedule will then be reviewed to see if there is sufficient room at that time for a trip outside the operational area to take place. You will then be informed as to whether your proposed trip has been placed in the schedule.
You should also note that if you do wish to travel outside your operational area, there will be an additional charge of 50 pence per mile (or any part of that mile).
Will I be able to use my Concessionary Travel pass?
No. The Door-2-Door Transport service does not operate concessionary travel.
Companion travel
Should you wish to do so, you can bring up to two essential companions with you - these may be an essential companion, carer or assistant.
The companion(s) will pay the same fare as you. You may also bring with you your spouse (should this person not be your companion) and any dependant children you have. Other non-essential companions can travel with you as well, under certain conditions. The companion(s) will be charged in line with the fares outlined above.
Note: you will have declared how many dependent children you have upon application for membership.
Additional (non-essential) companions (for example, other relatives or friends) will only be able to travel with you if there is room available on the Door-2-Door Transport vehicle at the end of the booking period (5.00 pm) prior to the day of travel. They will also be charged in line with the fares outlined above.
What if I do not live in one of these areas?
This service is for people who live in urban areas. If you do not live in one of the areas listed, there may be a Rural Community Transport Partnership operating in your area which may suit your transport needs.
Please telephone 0845 650 1190, and your call will be directed to the Partnership nearest to you. Or, you can vist the Community Transport Northern Ireland website where you will be able to find the contact details of the Partnership operating in your area.
Operating hours and booking
Services run from 7.30 in the morning until 11.30 at night, every day of the week.
How do I make a booking?
Once you have registered to become a member of the Door-2-Door Transport service, you will be sent a membership welcome pack. The pack will include a membership Smartcard and details of who to contact to book your trip.
You are advised to book your trip at least 24 hours in advance but you can book up to the time of travel, subject to availability.
The booking centre is open from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm Monday to Friday, and 9.00 am to 12.00 pm on Saturdays.
Bookings made after 4.00 pm Monday to Friday, or at anytime on Saturday and Sunday, will not be dealt with until the next working day.
Advanced booking
A block-booking takes place when a member of the Door-2-Door Transport service pre-books the same daily or weekly journey, without the need to ring back the operator to confirm each individual trip.
You can block-book your journeys for up to four weeks in advance, subject to the discretion of the operator. You will therefore be expected to re-book your block-booking at the end of each four-week period (should you wish to do so).
If you need to cancel an individual block-booking journey, you should inform the operator by 4.00 pm on the day prior to travelling.
