Trampoline safety
Using a trampoline can be good exercise and a fun way for children to be physically active. However, if not used properly, trampolines can be dangerous and cause many injuries in Northern Ireland every year. It is important that you follow the safety advice on this page when your child is using a trampoline.
Staying safe
Tips on safe trampolining include:
- always use a safety net to prevent falls off the trampoline
- supervise children at all times and ensure they have rest periods
- only allow one child at a time to use the trampoline
- only bounce on the middle of the trampoline
- step on and off the trampoline – never jump
- always use pads to prevent injuries on the trampoline
- never go underneath a trampoline
Domestic trampolines are not designed for stunts like somersaults or flips – these should only be attempted under supervision and on professional trampolines.
Remember that trampolines are not suitable for babies, toddlers and very young children.
