Family Mediation
Separation is a sad reality in today’s society and parents want to ensure that the experience is managed in the best possible way for their children.
What services are available?
There are family mediation services available for those who are experiencing relationship problems, such as relationship counselling and therapy.
If you are in the process of separating however, then you should use the pre-court family mediation service, which is free of charge.
The pre-court mediation service
This service is free of charge and is available through Family Mediation NI as well as through Barnardos. It can help families through the trauma of separation and divorce.
Mediation is voluntary and by working together with a neutral mediator, each couple will identify and aim to reach an agreement on issues arising from the separation or divorce, relating to children, finance and property. Such support and mediation can help couples develop a better relationship not only between each other but also with their children after the divorce is finalised.
For more information on pre-court mediation services visit family mediation services (Family Support NI website)
This free service is additional to court-directed family mediation which is funded by Legal Aid or self funding by participants.
