How to tax a lorry, bus and other vehicles with a reminder

About three weeks before your tax disc runs out, you should get a ‘Vehicle licence application/statutory off-road notification’ (V11(NI) reminder) or 'Heavy goods vehicle licence application/SORN declaration’ (V13(NI) HGV reminder) from the Driver & Vehicle Agency (DVA). You can use either reminder to renew your tax in person or by post. The V11(NI) reminder can also be used to renew your tax by phone.

When to apply

If your tax is due to run out at the end of the month, you can renew it from the fifth day of the month.

Use the reminder at selected Post Office® branches that issue tax discs, in person at any DVA local office or by post to the address shown on the reminder form. The reminder will be returned to you when the tax disc is issued at a Post Office® branch.
