Types of vehicles which require a test

Passenger cars and motorcycles

All cars and motorcycles 4 years old and over must undergo an annual MOT test

Light goods vehicles (LGV’s) less than 3500kg

Light goods vehicles 3 years and over must undergo an annual test

Heavy goods vehicles (HGV’s) more than 3500kg

Heavy goods vehicles must be tested every year after registration

Trailers

Trailers must be tested every year after registration

Taxis

Taxis are given a more rigorous test

Buses/Coaches/Large Passenger Carrying Vehicles (LPCV's)

These vehicles must be tested every year after registration
