Are you satisfied with your MOT?

If you are not satisfied with the way your test was conducted, please try to resolve the issue with the Driver & Vehicle Agency (DVA) test centre manager before you leave. Otherwise, you can complete a customer complaints' form and forward it to DVA’s customer services team. These forms can be collected at any test centre and the contact details will be on the back of the form.

What if you disagree with an MOT result?

If you disagree with the test result, discuss it with the manager of the test centre if possible, and don't let anyone carry out repairs to your vehicle. You can appeal within 14 days of the decision. You must complete an appeal form - obtainable from any MOT testing station or by calling DVA customer services on the MOT customer helpline 0845 6014 094.

Completed appeal forms need to be returned to DVA within 14 working days of the test along with a full test fee. DVA will then offer an appointment within five working days to re-check your vehicle. If your appeal is successful, some or all of the test fee will be refunded. Don't have your vehicle repaired before your appeal is considered, as any change to your vehicle may affect the outcome of the appeal.

Can I fix the vehicle myself?

DVA will supply you with an inspection report listing any vehicle defects and advisory items following their check of the vehicle. Anyone can repair the vehicle, but all rectification work will be assessed (using the criteria specified in the MOT inspection manual) before an MOT certificate is issued.

Duplicate certificates

There is a fee for a duplicate MOT certificate.
