How to register your 'old' vehicle
DVA Licensing treats applications to register 'old vehicles' similar to any other application for a Duplicate Vehicle Registration Certificate V5C(NI). Applicants should also complete a V34(NI) application form, quoting the vehicle chassis number and enclosing a payment of £25.00 per vehicle.
Background information
In some cases very old vehicle records may not still be available and if this happens, applicants should provide evidence of the vehicle's previous registration history.
How to register your vehicle under its original number
In the first instance you should apply using application form V34(NI). If no vehicle record exists you will be asked to provide evidence of the vehicle's previous registration history, such as:
- the original hand-written RF60/VE60 log book
- old tax discs
- old insurance certificates/MOT certificates
- archive/library records
- other documentary evidence linking it to the original registration mark
A decision will then be made as to the possibility of reallocating the original registration mark based on the evidence provided. Any registration mark allocated in this manner will be allocated on a non-transferable basis. This means that you will not be able to transfer it to another vehicle at a later date.
What happens next
If your application is successful, the original registration mark will be allocated on a non-transferable basis and you will be issued a V5C(NI) Vehicle Registration Certificate.
