Income Support - Deductions
In some situations the Social Security Agency (SSA) has the power to deduct an amount from the Income Support payment before you receive it.
Deductions from Benefit
Deductions may be taken for the following:
- Housing costs
- Service charges for fuel and rent arrears
- Fuel costs
- Child maintenance
- Social Fund repayments
- Overpayments of benefits
Deductions taken by Child Maintenance and Enforcement Division (CMED)
Since 14 July 2008 if you are receiving Income Support for a child/children you no longer have to disclose details of an absent parent to the Social Security Agency.
Since 12 April 2010, you can keep all of the maintenance that you are paid without it affecting your benefit entitlement. We do however still need to know about any child maintenance you receive as child maintenance is treated as income.
