Change of address - Carer's Allowance
If you are in receipt of Carers Allowance, this may be affected following a change of address.
Permanent change of address
In the event of a change of address you should contact Disability and Carers Service to inform us of your new address and to confirm that you are still providing at least 35 hours caring per week for the person you look after.
You should also inform Disability and Carers Service of any changes to your bank, building society or Post Office® card account details, for example if your sort code or account number change.
Temporary change of address
Respite care
Respite care is when the carer and/or the person with a disability are admitted to either a hospital, residential care home or nursing home, because they need to be looked after for a short period of time.
In the event of a temporary change of address into respite care the carer should notify Disability and Carers Service of the change.
Carers Allowance may cease immediately but could continue to be paid for up to 12 weeks. Continued payment of Carers Allowance will depend on your circumstances and those of the person with the dsiability during the 26 weeks prior to admission to hospital, residential care or nursing home.
Holiday
Carers Allowance may continue in payment for up to four weeks depending on your circumstances and those of the disabled person you care for, during the last 26 weeks.
