Travel to Interview Scheme
The Travel to Interview Scheme is designed to help unemployed people with the cost of travelling to interviews for full-time permanent positions in Northern Ireland or elsewhere in the United Kingdom.
Applications for Travel to Interview Scheme (TIS)
Applications should be made in advance of your interview by completeing a TIS 1 form, available from any Jobs & Benefits office or JobCentre.
Assistance Available
Help with the cost of a return journey to attend a pre-arranged interview away from home may be available from the Department for Employment and Learning. Assistance will be limited to the most economical method; either:
- the actual cost of your journey by public transport
- reimbursement of the cost of your travel by private transport by the most direct route which will be paid at the current mileage rate
Assistance will be reduced if any support in travelling to your interview is provided by the employer.
Eligibility
To get help under the Travel to Interview Scheme (TIS) you must be unemployed or under written notice of redundancy and be resident in Northern Ireland. The interview must be in Northern Ireland or elsewhere in the United Kingdom with an employer who has confirmed that you will be interviewed.
The job must be 16 hours or more per week and expected to last for more than 3 months.
The job must not be:-
- seasonal, temporary or a short-term fixed contract;
- a Department for Employment and Learning programme or scheme (with the exception of Bridge to Employment programme)
- self-employment
- Job Fair, or open invitation recruitment
