Choosing a career
Making career decisions is an important part of your plans for the future. Finding out as much as you can about different careers will help you to make good career choices.
Think about
- your interests
- your personality
- your skills
- qualifications you are likely to need
Thinking about jobs
It is important to remember that not all jobs fit neatly into one career area. For example, in nursing you would deal with people (social), update patient’s records (clerical and using a computer) and use medical equipment (practical).
Also, within any career there are a number of levels at which you may enter - depending on your qualifications and experience. You may have to consider a job at a level lower than you are qualified for and work your way up through further study, training or experience.
Research a wide range of careers
You should research careers to make sure that you find a job that matches your skills and that you will enjoy.
Remember it is important to research your career ideas thoroughly and not make hasty decisions.
