Gloria Feenan O’Neill was presented with the ICT Essential Skills Learner of the Year 2011 award at the Essential Skills Awards ceremony held in Hillsborough Castle. Gloria was also highly commended in the County Down category.
Gloria is a hairdresser who returned to study, when, owing to a family illness, she was forced to rethink her family future and finances. As part of her Access to Healthcare course at South Eastern Regional College in Newcastle, Gloria achieved her Essential Skills Level 2 ICT qualification and now plans to continue her studies at university with a view to becoming a social worker.
Commenting on her learning experience, Gloria said: “I have opened up a whole new future for myself as a result of my return to education. My qualifications now mean I can plan to go to university and continue with my learning.”
