The census collects information every 10 years about people and households in Northern Ireland. It is used by central and local government, health authorities and many other organisations to plan and provide future services.
Government and the census
It is important to know how many people live in Northern Ireland so that the Government can work out what types of services are needed now and in the future. With statistics from the census, central and local government can allocate funds, decide future policy and plan important services.

The last census was held on 27 March 2011. You can access the results of the 2011 Census on the Northern Ireland Neighbourhood Information Service (NINIS) website.
