Steps to Work - Step one
Step One can give you the help you need to find work if you are almost ready to apply for jobs. You will get help from your Steps to Work adviser to focus on things employers are looking for, such as communication and presentation skills.
Confidence and Motivational Building Course
This course will help you if you have been out of work for some time and are lacking in confidence or motivation.
Short accredited courses
You can undertake one (or sometimes more than one) short accredited course that lasts up to a maximum of 10 days. These courses give you a recognised qualification which will help you find a job.
Essential skills assessment
If you have difficulty with reading, writing or numbers you can have your skills assessed. This one-day assessment will let you know about the support that is available to you to improve your skills and improve your chances of finding and keeping a job.
Personal assessment
This element, which can last up to three days, will help you decide how ready you are for work, assess your training needs as well as help you to overcome any problems or concerns you may have about work.
Jobsearch, employability, interview skills and CV building
Depending on what you need these elements can be undertaken together or individually. You will receive information on suitable jobs and help with completing application forms, letters of application forms and a CV. You will also get help to prepare for job interviews and advice on how to keep a job once you find one.
Internet navigation/introduction to IT
This will show you how to use the internet to help improve your jobsearch activities by using recruitment websites.
Self-employment awareness
This is a short awareness session which will give you information on self-employment and the opportunity to discuss your business idea. You can then go on to do a five-day Start a Business Programme if you wish to take self-employment further.
Music industry adviser
If you have a work history or experience in the music industry, this will assess if you would benefit from specialist support from a music industry adviser.
